Cafe Manager

Valentine Coffee Roasters is looking for an experienced hospitality professional to lead café operations.

The Café Manager role is an integral representative of Valentine Coffee Roasters (VCR) whose responsibilities include implementing company policies, communicating observations, troubleshooting daily obstacles, and leading their team in providing superior customer service. This position works closely with various company departments and is best suited for an organized and ambitious self-starter with exceptional interpersonal communication skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Building/Maintaining Relationships 
Use knowledge of company products and services to connect with customers and staff to generate sales and create a unique and pleasant café experience. Perform all duties with a ‘service-first’ hospitality mindset of kindness, respect, and assistance. Act as an ambassador for Valentine Coffee Roasters both on and off the clock. Work closely with the building owner, property manager, and neighboring businesses.

Café Operations
Arrive ready to work, consistently model desired actions, and lead the team to success. Proactively learn about company products and professionally relay information to team and customers alike. Assist in the crafting of beverages of both the caffeinated and alcoholic varieties. Follow and model for the team all in-house procedures, guidelines, and parameters. Monitor company equipment for preventative maintenance scheduling. Assemble and cook food to customer’s specifications and company guidelines. Be knowledgeable about and follow all food and safety regulations. Work with a sense of urgency to ensure minimal wait times for customers.

Management
Effectively incorporate, model, and coach staff on all company policies. Handle customer inquiries and complaints in an appropriate manner aligning with VCR policies. Maintain adequate staffing levels and communicate hiring needs to upper management. Train and coach employees on procedures and appropriate customer interactions. Own the cleanliness and presentation of the café at all times, delegating tasks as needed. Proficiently work and manage all stations, and provide comprehensive training on same. Communicate with the building owner regarding building observations, issues, or concerns. Maintain café drawer counts and safe balances, completing bank runs as needed. Handle payment processing including counting down deposits and balancing drawers. Take inventory, place orders, and restock inventory - delegating tasks as needed. Attend Manager and Company meetings/events. Timely read/respond to company emails. Create schedules to reflect strengths and adequate support of staff:
• Send schedules out within the predetermined time frame.
• Provide coverage and support when necessary.

Required Qualifications
• Education attainment equivalent to a high school diploma.
• Excellent communication skills to communicate with colleagues, customers, and vendors.
• Ability to use a personal computer, word processing, and spreadsheets.
• Knowledge of and the ability to use a variety of POS systems and standard office equipment such as a 10-key calculator, telephone, scanner, and printer.
• Ability to be aware of and ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations related to Café operations.
• Flexible scheduling. 
• Ability to stand throughout an entire shift is required. 
• Ability to lift up to 50lbs.

Preferred Qualifications
• At least 1 year of proven experience in hospitality leadership. 
• Knowledge and experience with Valentine Coffee Roasters.
• Ability to safely and lawfully run necessary errands for the Café (e.g. bank).

Physical and Mental Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand, talk, hear, and use hands to manipulate objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds while moving store inventory. While performing the duties of the position, it is frequently necessary for the employee to navigate service, production, and interpersonal issues.

Working Environment
Work is performed both in a Café/Food Service environment. The noise level in the work environment will vary throughout the shift. While the responsibilities of this position are largely conducted indoors in a temperature controlled environment, occasionally going outside in all weather conditions will be necessary in the normal course of business.

Delivery Driver & Wholesale Support Specialist

Role Aspects:
• Reading customer orders and neatly packing with accuracy.
• Organizing/staging orders for delivery.
• Loading/unloading delivery vehicles.
• Completing assigned inventory and delivery routes to all customers in a safe, efficient, timely, and professional manner.
• Obtaining verification of delivery and ensuring its return to main office.
• Proactively communicating any delivery issues/changes/anomalies, or customer questions/concerns to Management.
• Completing production tasks including:  labeling, packaging, grinding, stocking, order fulfillment.
• Maintaining cleanliness and organization of work stations and surrounding floors at all times.
• Assisting execution of regular farmer's markets and occasional catering events including:  brewing coffee/tea; organizing, loading, and delivering supplies; assisting in set up, tear down, cleaning, and return of supplies.
• Keeping the fleet clean at all times, inside and out, and alerting Management to any and all vehicle issues.
• Performing light auto maintenance, tire pressure, washer fluid, notice of oil changes.
• Perform additional tasks and responsibilities, as directed by the Production Manager.

Physical Requirements:
• 100% Agility as you will spend most of the time standing and moving quickly.
• Occasional environmental exposures to cold and heat.
• Able to transport up to 75 pounds on occasion and up to 50 pounds regularly.

Also Required:
• Weekend availability
• A valid Driver’s License
• Clean driving record (no moving violations, at-fault accidents, license suspensions)

Preferred:
• Previous experience as driver, stocker, etc.
• Understanding of professional warehouse safety, equipment, and driving etiquette
• Understanding of safety, sanitation and food handling procedures

This role reports directly to the Production Manager, COO, and CEO.
